Located within the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the museum celebrates over a century of racing heritage. Overlooking the racetrack, The 3,000 sf retail space is accessible from both the entry lobby and signals the end of the museum experience.
Key features include the “Yard of Bricks” - a preserved stretch of the original brick track that marks the historic start/finish line, and the Victory Podium milk tradition, where winners toast with a bottle of milk in a gesture rooted in 1930s racing lore. Overlooking the track, the Pagoda is another defining architectural element, blending Japanese design influences with modern function as a hub for race-day operations and media.
Working with engineers and project managers, Iconic structures found on the racetrack were replicated and transformed them into functional fixtures. The flag stand incorporated clothing racks, a lego pagoda replica housed childrens' toys, and a subtle checker patterned metal was featured throughout the store. Hand-poured “milk bottle” lights illuminated the checkout - a nod to the winner’s tradition - while the brick finish line was embedded into the floor as a symbolic end to the museum experience. The space invites both adults and children to explore, discover, and reminisce.
